Hey i have got a Gigabyte GTX 980 TI G1,

When i put my fan speed to 100%

either with OC GURU II or MSI AFTERBURNER, the fan speed drops from 3600 to 3300 for a few seconds. Especially when i alt tab to another program or sometimes in games

I'm using a 4790k with a 700w PSU,

Everything else works fine also gaming etc.

Does anyone know whats up ?
Do i need to return it?

I'm not running it at 100% constantly.
Also why i would do it it irrelevant. I just want to know if this is a normal thing or if its broken.

Any help would be appreciate it.

I have no idea I have never tried to make my fans run at 100% i just create a fan profile that allows the fans to reach 100% if my card gets hot enough. At stock your fans will probably top out at say 30-40% so it stands to reason that the makers of the card never intended to have the fans run at 100% for any extended period of time so it might start to get weird if you do. I highly doubt there is anything wrong the card its possible but I doubt it.

You can control fan speeds manually.

Perhaps i should elaborate.
I'm going to overclock my 980 TI,
And part of it is having to put the graphic card fan speed at MAX.

I have had many graphic cards since 1996.
100% van speed is normally 100% fan speed.

BUT, with this card. when i alt-tab to another window or am gaming, sometimes for 0.5 - 1 second the fan speed drops with 300 - 700 rpm.

It is significantly hearable.

Since this has never happened to me before in all those years. I'm asking people here for advice.

Perhaps someone that owns the same card?

Best regards,
