Looking at upgrading my PC. Im either looking at placing a few items into it or just buying a new tower and working with what i have in it atm and some new bits to upgrade it. Either way, I have looked into things a bit and have found a few products that i like the look of, Will these work together in either of my situations??

MY PC: Compaq Presario CQ3250AN

Processor: AMD Athlon II X3 44 Processor 3.00 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 4350
PC: Running on 64 - Bit
Motherboard: No idea.

Looking at buying these products:

*Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 Video Card - 1024MB 256-bit GDDR5 RAM - 775 / 4000Mhz Clock - PCIe 2.1 - DVI, DisplayPort, HDMI - CrossFire Ready

*ASRock 880GM-LE, Socket AM3, Dual DDR3-1800, AMD 880G+SB710, HT 3.0, Onboard Radeon HD 4250, VGA, DVI, 6x SATA (6x SATA3), 1x IDE, 1x FDD, 1x PCIe x16, 1x PCIe x1, 2x PCI, 14x USB (1x USB3), Gigabit LAN, 5.1ch ALC662, Micro ATX

As i said above, Will they work together?? Feedback would be helpful :) Thanks. (Also im in AUS, so im having to use sites that ship to AUS. Currently using http://www.mwave.com.au)

Solution

you can put as powerful a GPU as the power supply you buy can handle. The GPU you chose is a good one. I'm an nVidia fan myself and would have chose a GTX 460 1GB (equal in performance) or GTX 560 Ti Better in performance.

This PSU will handle all GPU's for sure...

What is the purpose of replacing the motherboard? I'm not sure you will gain anything other than USB 3.0 by doing it.

Your performance gain would be a new GPU (HD 6850) and a good 500w PSU (Corsair, Seasonic, Antec, XFX Core series)

Compaq Presario CQ3250AN Listed Hardware
Athlonll X3 440 (R) 3.0 GHz (95W) Socket AM3
Chipset GeForce 6150SE nForce 430
Motherboard: Pegatron M2N68-LA (Narra6(L)-GL6)
Power supply 300W
Memory Installed 4 GB (2 x 2 GB) PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM (only 2 Ram slots)
Hard drive 500 GB SATA 3G (3.0 Gb/sec) 7200 rpm
SuperMulti DVD Burner with LightScribe Technology drive SATA LightScribe
Video Graphics AMD Radeon HD4350 512 MB DDR2 memory
Sound/Audio High Definition 6-channel audio ALC 662 chipset

Ok thanks for the feedback.

I've had another look, and I've seen your point about replacing the motherboard, thanks.

If im going to be keeping the motherboard should i be replacing the Processor - Graphics - PSU??

If so, I have picked out these, Are they compatible and will they work with my system??

CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition, 3.20GHz, Quad Core, Socket AM3, 125W TDP, 4x512KB L2 Cache, 6MB L3 Cache, Stepping C3, Boxed, Deneb

GRAPHICS - Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 Video Card - 1024MB 256-bit GDDR5 RAM - 775 / 4000Mhz Clock - PCIe 2.1 - DVI, DisplayPort, HDMI - CrossFire Ready

PSU - Corsair CX-500 Builder Series 500 Watt Power Supply - ATX/EPS - Silent 12cm Fan - Black

Your MB will NOT support that CPU (only up to 95W TDP) the x4 955 is 125W TDP:
http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-PEGATRON-Asus-M2N68-LA-Narra-6-01-CPU-Upgrade

to upgrade the CPU you will need a new MB also. The ASRock 880GM-LE will work fine.

Thanks once again.

Although buying a new motherboard will take me out of my Price range :|

I was thinking WHAT IF i keep everything as it is in my PC... Except for the PSU and Graphics Card. What is the max Graphics card i could place into my machine?? If this is irrelevant and just making a new PC from around $600 is better let me know plz :)... Even thought the first option is always easier for me. Thanks again.

you will see a good performance gain in the GPU/PSU upgrade. after that it would be a motherboard and CPU upgrade. you Ram is fine as is your HDD, both are reusable in an upgrade (hopefully your new MB will like the RAM).

If you upgrade your MB/CPU, I would either go with a i5 2400 (or 2500k) Sandy Bridge build or a AMD Phenom x4 9xx Build If you go with AMD I would pay the extra money to get a Bulldozer upgradeable MB like the ASUS M4A89TD PRO (/USB3) or M4A89GTD PRO (/USB3).

Solution

Your CPU is not exactly bad and matching it with a HD6850/70 or GTX460, 560TI would be a grade upgrade.
