Help! Really high ping after formatting my computer

So I decided to format my computer, and reinstall Windows 8. I used the same system before and everything regarding the internet was fine (except the sudden lagspikes which I suspect were cause of power failures, but might need to look into that later as well). After installing every driver that my motherboard/graphic card needed, and downloading the basics, I noticed that I had really high ping to several servers. I called my ISP and they told me everything was fine on their part, with them gettin 10-12 ping, but my speedtest still showed 132ms. The download speed stayed the same, but the upload speed seems to have gone to 1/3rd of its value. I am confused what might cause the issue, and it is really frustrating. This is all after the formatting, mind you.

My specs:
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77M_PRO
16gigs RAM
INtel i7 3770k
GB nvidia GeForce Gti660Ti

I am using ethernet cable and no routers.

Thanks for replying and helping!

I checked once again, if my drivers are in place, and they seem to be. Could it be that one of the offical drivers is faulty, and got updated that way since the last time i checked on them (since i updated with the newest)?

I pinged 8.8.8.8 and it was pings between 100 to 500, but dor some reason cmd instadisappears after finishing (another oddity i havent seen before). I checked straight after restarting my computer and there it is on normal values like 32ms. Other suspicion is that there is a program in the background that is using it up, but Windows update has been disabled, as any program that would normally DL like mad (like Steam).

Sorry if I sound like an idiot 🙁 Any other tips? Thanks for the help!

The CMD instance isn't disappearing, it was never opened. You directly called ping, instead of first calling CMD. By default, a program closes once it finishes, and that's why ping goes away once it's done.

Do a "tracert www.google.com" and a "pathping www.google.com"

This should get you general latencies of each router between you and Google.

Okay right after you answered i did the tracert and the values were high as hell, with nothing changed, but then i waited 10 minutes, and it went back to normal values (10ms to my ISP). I restarted several times and even waitedprolonged durations and it stays low. I have no idea what cause the high ping (for a day and a half) in the first place, but it seems fixed now. Even thought it is, can you guys give me a guess what it might have been? Or is the issue just napping waiting to bite me in the butt again?

Thanks for your help! <3

i am having a problem that sounds alot like this, I am not on a fresh install of windows 8.1 but I am also on windows 8.1. This is a recent problem for me I updated to windows 8.1 day after it came out but the problem didn't start right away.

While doing a DNS benchmark with that app that's recommended in networking stickies during a 30 minute test of 5000 dns resolvers I only maybe managed to get a 1000 of them to respond or not refuse connection and the app says higher than 20 percent failure rate is suspicious of something being wrong. my ping tests will drop 13 percent or more packets. I try playing League of legends and my ping says 50 but I feel like I am playing with 400+.

Websites load fine and download speeds are normal but even a server side flash facebook game is really laggy. problem is worst in mornings and after school hours till bedtime. During the middle of the night my ping tests don't drop many packets 0-3 percent. The facebook game lags even when league of legends doesn't though and even when my ping tests aren't dropping packets.

It sound like you area is over subscribed if it's ok when kids are in school and at night, The trace you posted is fine also so it would be odd if their really is a connection with Win 8.1.

if you just formated please check if windows finished downloading updateds.Been there, i thought i have net problems until updates finished. When they finished i was back to normal speeds.Sometimes the solution is as simple as that.Peace
