Help recovering data after formatting

Well... I've figured out it's not a good idea to install partitions at 3 in the morning. Unfortunately I figured this out from forgetting to backup a very important file. Are there any sort of disk utilities I can use to restore the data? I don't really want to pay for some service, if there's something I can download or something like that...

after a formatting, urm, ouch!
have a look to the Norton Utilities toolkit. it could be helpful.

ps: i think (not sure) the logical format (not as the hardware format) doesn't crashed all the data setting them to 0.
 
There's an unformat command in older versions of DOS. Check out the threads for a similar post. I had a link to some info on it.
