hi everyone,
i have a Packard Bell computer that has windows xp home ed copy. last month i installed the new windows vista beta. Without me knowing the trike of the tattoo i formated the hard dist and installed vista. now i am trying to get my xp copy but unsuccessfully. unfortunately i don't have or made the master cds but i know that i have the backup partition in my hard drive. i have downloaded the boot cd but i don't know how to use it (note that my computer doesn't have a floppy disk drive). so if anyone knows how to use my backup partition to restore the tattoo to the hard drive, please help.

thanx

Hiya.

I,m sorry to bring bad news.
Your packard bell did come with a recovery partition which was a back up of your OEM window XP. and would of been eccesable by tapping F11 while starting your PC.
When you up graded to Vista the new OS would of deleted this partition table ( the hidden partition ) and used it to maxamise space. you would not of been warned of this.
The Tattoo your reffereing to is not the problem and in now way reflects the hidden partition or your operating system. Tattoo's are only hardware idents for the recovery you did have.

to obtain the recovery of your previous XP
call the techguys oon 08709013000 select option 2, then 4
they will then forward you to the packard bell line where your os can be bought for £25. < this is much cheaper than buying a new operating system> disc's take about 10 -14 days to arrive.
you will need you seriel number and P/N number which is located on the back of your machine.

If your hidden partition is still there, this should work:

- Go to http://support.packardbell.com/cz/my...nt=platform_J4
- Download BOOTDISK16.EXE, run it and create a bootable CD-R
- Boot from the CD-R
- When it asks for the recovery CDs/DVDs, hit ESCape to go to the DOS prompt.
- Go to drive A: do a directory, and you'll find a batch file called F11.BAT
- Execute the batch file.
- Remove the CD
- Re-boot

This will get you straight into the recovery process (well, it got ME there, anyway). Success!
