Hey guys thanks for stopping by. I have recently purchased a Asus H81M-K Micro ATX Motherboard with a i5-4440. This is a package deal via overclockers so they set up the package and I can 'plug and play'.

My question is this; As I am using the same HDD I am aware I will still have to re-install windows, however, will I have to pay and is it best to wipe my HDD and start fresh?

Any help at all is appreciated, thanks :)

What version of Win and what was your old hardware? If Win 7, it's very adept at simply looking at new hardware and adjusting itself to what it's running on new. You would then load the latest mobo drivers (from the mobo web site, those that come on a disk are generally outdated). Next run a good registry cleaner (Wise has a good free version). Then you would have to reactivate Win, all rather simple.

If you do this ensure you have good backups of your data, I've have success better than 90+ % of the time with this and Win 7 (even OEM versions) but it's not guaranteed 😉
Hi stringeeyyy,

You are correct, you will need to reinstall Windows. It would be a good idea to wipe your HD and start with a fresh installation, just be sure to back up all your data externally that you want to keep before doing a fresh install!!

If you have a currently working version of Windows on your HD then you shouldn't need to buy it again. Hopefully you still have your installation disk or Windows key. If you still have your key you will be able to use it again on your new motherboard, though you might need to verify it through Windows phone support after installation. You'll see a pop-up after installation asking you to verify by phone if that is needed, and the pop-up will give you a step-by-step on how to proceed.
