Hi all
At the moment I have the following system
Intel Quad Core Q9400 @ 2.67Ghz
GA-EP45-UD3R Rev 1.1
4gb DDR2 Ram 400Mhz (Unknown brand)
Gigabyte 7750 OC
500gb Seagate Barracuda
Antec Neo Eco 400w 80 Plus
2 Optical Drives
Windows 7 64 Bit
100mm fan
120mm LED fan
Since I cannot afford to buy a full PC, I plan to upgrade parts of this and overclock it to get as much as I can out of this machine.
Please, do not recommend buying a new system I have already agreed with people NOT to do this.
My original plan to was upgrade the RAM to 8gb G Skill 800Mhz. From there I would upgrade the Power Supply to something around 550w and move the parts into a bigger case.
(My current cannot fit a bigger cooler and I would be a pain to replace the Power Supply)
I would then by the Cooler Master Hyper 212+ Evo, install new Thermal Paste and overclock it.
I still haven't found a case for everything to go into, but I would prefer not to spend over $70 Australian, as I am on a budget. I am however leaning towards this case: The Cooler Master K280
I have a few questions regarding the upgrading of parts.
Would this be the right method to upgrade this machine? Should something be changed?
For the ram, should I get 8gb or just 4gb?
What kind of overclocking could I get from this board and CPU? (A general estimation would be fine as I know each card and board is different and can deliver difference results)
If I do overclock, should I get another graphics card to ensure there are no bottlenecks of some kind?
Finally, I have heard that Artic Silver is a decent thermal paste, however I am unsure whether to get that or something else. It costs $15 at the place I buy my parts at.
If there is any other advise, could someone please give me a decent run down of what to do and why, so i can understand the best method for upgrading and making use of everything.
That is about it for now, if there is anything else I need to ask, I will simply post it.
(I apologise for any mistakes, returned from a long day at work at 11pm and wanted to get this posted so I can see the answers, if any in the morning.)
Many thanks
Thanks
