Hi!

So first my specs:
Motherboard: ASRock Steel Legend B450M with bios 4.3
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600
RAM: 2x 8GB 3600Mhz G.Skill
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3070 ti
PSU: RM650x Corsair, 2 year old
Windows 10 64bit

So i always thought and i actually remember reading it somewhere that ryzen cpus have auto OC, meaning just getting the advertised max clock speed about 4.4 Ghz when playing games etc.. So after i bought it i've looked up on task manager, i see someting about 4.3 Ghz and i think "ok it works". And so 2 years later i see i was wrong.

Now in my BIOS i had the option CPPC enabled. Which i heard its actually not that good for most games etc. i wanted to test it and after i disabled it i noticed my CPU is running at stock clock speeds even in games. So it was only running higher because of this option which actually should not be right?

I have the PBO set enabled in my bios which is for the OC for CPU if im not mistaken right? But this somehow doesn't work because my CPU is still running at clock speeds. What can i do to OC my CPU? Do i really have to set everything manual?

I thought using PBO will do it kinda automatically but it won't work in my bios? is it bugged? I have not the newest version of my bios but i didn't want to update coz its only agesa and i dont want to risk my performance (but im still thinking about it, it i need it for PBO). OR do i have to install Ryzen Master and use PBO there?

I have newest drivers and everything.

Using CPPC in this situation gives me more performance based on Escape from tarkov, probably coz without it cpu running at clock speed, i wanna change it. Have decent cooler, even with this CPPC was running hottest at like 58 C

If needed i can show photos of my bios settings etc. I hope somebody can help. Thanks in advance.

When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model.

So I included more specs, don't really know my ssd model etc. and monitor shouldn't be relevant.
So anyone can help?

Does PBO just not work with this motherboard and i have to download Ryzen Master (which is so bad, i had so many problems with it back then) or am I doing something wrong?

You don't mention the brand and model number of your CPU cooling solution. What is it?

Modern CPUs will only reach advertised speeds if they have adequate cooling. During normal boosting and especially with PBO, the CPU may "throttle" at its maximum permissible temperature, which is "only" 90°C for your 5600. At this point, the BIOS will limit the CPU voltage and may even reduce the clock rate of some cores, to stop the CPU from overheating. That's why you may not be seeing 4.4GHz.

The 5600 has a nominal TDP of 65W, but a PPT of 88W. It's possible that PBO might push dissipation even higher.

If you're using the bundled cooler (see below), you may need a bigger cooler, but even with the best cooler, the CPU may still throttle, but at a slightly faster speed.

The minimum I'd go for would be something like the Thermalright Assassin X120 Refined SE with four heatpipes and a claimed DTPC of 50 to 225W, but there's no way I'd use this on a 225W CPU.

If you need a low profile cooler, I've used the Thermalright SI-100 with six heatpipes in an HTPC.

For more powerful CPUs, I've started using the 6-heatpipe Peerless Assassin and 7-heatpipe Phantom Spirit, but these are BIG coolers and overkill for a 5600. They might not fit in your case.

I suggest you read a number of overclocking guides and familiarise yourself with the concepts of overclocking. There are numerous articles, some good, some bad.

Some people avoid automated tuning utilities, because they apply more Volts than necessary, to cope with even the worst CPUs. You can often get better results using finer manual control in the BIOS, but you need to know what you're doing. Get the settings badly wrong and "magic smoke" might appear.

I'm not using PBO on my 7950X and I'm not running XMP/EXPO/DOCP on my RAM. Programs like DaVinci Resolve and Adobe Premiere Pro do not benefit much from faster RAM on Ryzens. I need a stable system for 11-hour transcodes, not faster FPS in games.

Ryzen’s boost clocks hit 4.4 GHz only briefly on one core, not all cores constantly. CPPC helps performance by improving thread scheduling, leave it on. PBO needs a recent BIOS to work properly; update yours to fix it. Manual OC isn’t necessary yet. Ryzen Master is only useful after BIOS updates. Your temps are good, so cooling isn’t the problem. Update BIOS, enable PBO and CPPC, then check performance
