help setting up router in college dorm

So, there isn't wireless in my dorm, however there is a little modem. I have a router, so i was gonna set it up, however i'm having trouble. I set it up by plugging the an Ethernet cable from the modem to the wan port on the router. I also changed how my router assigns IPs. however when I connect to the router, no internet access.

Did you reset the modem? Most of them need to be reset when you change device (router or PC).

You might have to change the router into an access point, instead of full router functionality.
It all depends on how your local network is set up. Talk to your campus IT guys.

Be patient, though. At this time of year they are getting swamped with 1,000s of questions just like yours.
