I currently have a GTX 750 Ti. I do not think it can sli. I want to upgrade to a card with the equivalent or more power of the GTX 970 for the same price or close to it. Should I sli 2 GTX 950s or just buy the 970? Or is there another card or set of cards that get better performance? (I have already looked into the R9 290x)

Is the part that I connect to the motherboard on the R9 390 the same as the GTX 970? or would I need a new motherboard? and does it sli?

AMD uses Crossfire and Nvidia uses SLI, and at this point you don't need a connector for AMD cards while for Nvidia cards you need an SLI bridge. Whether your motherboard supports Crossfire or SLI is going to depend on which board you have, some support crossfire but not SLI. What motherboard do you have?

eBay, craigslist , Gumtree.

eBay charge 10% of selling fee, and if you use PayPal they take a small percentage too. But the others are free. Something to keep in mind.

yes they connect with the same connector. the only other real consideration is room in your case as amd cards often have relatively big coolers.
you wont need another motherboard your current 1 will handle the R9 390 or 970
and for now forget about crossfire or sli dual card setups. either will give you a great gaming experience of max settings @1080p.
