help thermal paste in cpu socket

i wanted to clean my coller and cpu and put a new thermal paste.but there were like little balls of thermal paste on cpu so i w

iped it off but some got under the cpu.pins are in the socket.not on cpu.i am not sure if it was like that before or not.and i have an old pentium 4 laying around that o can test with but has pins on it.pls help
 
Can't just willy-nilly change processors, each one has to comply with the socket. Careful cleanup with isopropil alcohol and an injection needle with a bit of cotton in it's tip is only thing you can do. If it's not metallic paste there is no real danger of anything shorting even if a bit of paste is left inside.
 
Sounds like its an intel socket, so will be virtually impossible to get the paste out of the tiny pins which damage easily. Paste generally is silicone based which may insulate the affected pins from the cpu face (a bad thing) or may not impact pins once squished into its seat (a good thing).
 


i bought a new mobo and a cpu so it doesn't matter anymore
