Hi!
4 days ago, I updated my PC with a new motherboard, a CPU and some DDR4 RAM. I did a clean reinstall of Windows 10 (formatted the drives from my previous build). However, now that I have been playing games, I get random freezes. I can sometimes play for 2-3 hours without problems, but sometimes it freezes just in 30 minutes. This freezing makes my mouse and keyboard not respond to anything, it stills the picture on my screens and stops all audio output aswell. The computer itself stays on normally and all of the fans keep on spinning at normal speeds. Only way to "unfreeze" the system is to do a hard reboot. I have not experienced any freezes on normal use, outside gaming. Browsing the web etc.
The new and the "old" parts from my previous system :
New:
- Gigabyte z170 k3 Gaming motherboard
- Intel i5 6600k, running at stock 3,5gHz
- Kingston Furyx 8GB, 2133mHz, kit of 2
Old:
- Radeon R9 290x, Direct CU II, 4GB, Stock clocks
- OCZ ModXStream 700w powersupply
- Sharkoon t28 Case with 3 system fans
- A super old Seagate Barracuda, 500 GB
- Kingston SSDnow 120 GB
- An old LightScribe DVD burner/reader
- Thermaltate Macho HR-02 rev. B (previously mounted on an AMD CPU)
So, these parts combined forms my build!
Things I have already tried to solve this issue :
- Monitoring CPU and GPU temperatures, and yes, they are just fine. CPU on 100% load runs at 54 celsius MAX, and GPU runs at max 83 celsius when playing.
- Updating the BIOS. I updated my motherboards BIOS to the newest version, F3H, didn't solve the issue.
- Updating all of the drivers. Motherboards and GPU's drivers are up to date.
- Disabling PCI link state power management in Windows settings.
- Updating Windows.
- Running Windows memory diagnostics tool, no issues found.
- Running Memtest86 for 3 hours, 4 passes, no errors.
- Currently running HD Tune to test my drives, SSD had no errors, will update the HDD result later.
- Just disabled CPU throttling via Windows power management settings, did not help either.
I'm not sure whether this is a hardware issue or a software one. I have read some familiar problems that people have, seems to be something to do with Windows 10.
This problem is really frustrating, I play games competitively and this issue totally destroys the ability to even think about joining an online match.
I have ran out of ideas, so this is why I am asking for your help, it would be really appreciated. My only thought right now would be to reinstall Windows and all of the drivers.
Thanks in advance!
