So basically I've done a factory restore on my laptop because my graphics drivers were completely bugged from improper installation. I'm now ready to install a new driver to replace the stock one but I don't know where to get the update from. I was told not to get them from the AMD website and get them from my manufacturer instead. Well on the HP website, this is the latest driver that appears for my laptop.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-105178-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4063&product=5225914&sw_lang=

Surely this can't be right considering the AMD website had updates up to January this year, Can someone please explain to me exactly what I need to do because I've messed this up before which lead to months of graphics problems and ultimately end up wiping the whole computer. I want to get this over and done with with the proper instructions.

Okay well I should mention that before I did the factory reset and I tried installing the latest driver it basically didn't work. I'd download the installer and you'd have express or custom install where you can choose Catalyst Install Manager and other things. But no matter how many times I re-installed/reset the computer, the driver remained the same (from looking in device manager) which led me to restoring the laptop to factory settings.

So how do I make sure this doesn't happen again because I still don't know what caused it last time.

What GPU do you have?

AMD's driver removal tool does a really good job of cleaning all traces of its drivers from your system for a clean driver install. After that it's as simple as downloading and installing the correct one. I suspect their driver finder also works, but I never use that.

My Specs are:
HP Pavilion dv6. 64 Bit
Intel Core i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz
4GB Ram
Radeon HD 7690M XT

Okay I'll download that. Before I wiped my laptop I tried updating by uninstalling my graphics driver first, but when I restart the laptop after uninstalling it instantly re-installs the old driver and nothing will stop it. Wont that still happen? Or will it still work if I update the new driver straight after uninstalling the old one without restarting?

Okay another problem. I downloaded AMD Driver Autodetect to see if it can find the best driver that way. And in the program it thinks my graphics card is in the 6000 series instead of 7000? But device manager shows 7690M XT.

I remember reading in another thread for another graphics card, that that persons card was apparently the same as an older version and used it's drivers. Should I trust AMD and install the 6000 series driver or download this one instead.?? http://driverscollection.com/?H=Radeon%20HD%207690M%20XT&By=AMD

I don't wanna make the wrong choice and F up my graphics.

It really isn't... I've tried installing new AMD drivers but every time I do the installation process it never actually installs anything... even when I try clean install.
