Hey, I built this PC on a budget last year didnt really have a clue what i was buying and still don't :(
Looking for opinions on the best upgrades for it.

i would like to play games such as battlefield 4 flawlessly on max settings if possible, currently having issues with frame rate drops.

cpu: AMD FX 6100 Black Edition
motherboard: Asus M5A97
memory: 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair DDR3 XMS3
gpu : 2GB XFX HD 6950
psu: Powercool PC850UM

any help appreciated. was thinking of going intel for motherboard and cpu ? i dont know

looking to spend ~£500
not interested in overclocking havent even got a clue how to do it.

This should be fun...

SO bf4 max settings at 60+fps you say? Well...

First off you should pour alot of money into a new gpu. The gpu is the most important bit. For that I suggest an MSI gtx 760 HAWK. Pretty much best gtx 760 you can get and loads of great reviews.

Then have a look at a slightly better CPU. I suggest an 8320 or 8350 if you can afford it... (Both amd fx series btw)

The motherboard will be sufficient as it has the same socket as the 6100
Same story for the ram. Perfectly good ram.

Your psu is massively over powered. For what you will be using a 600-700W will be more than enough. If you can be bothered try swapping it for another and save the money.

It would be helpful to know your cooling solution as that can be a small factor in upgrading too.

I know you are not interesting in overclocking. But with the msi gpu you can get msi afterburner, makes overclocking simpler than1+1. Overclocking really is EASY and completely free... Have a look at YouTube for some quick guides for msi afterburner...

To wrap things up:
Spend most of the money on a new gpu. Sell the old one. I suggest an msi gtx 760 hawk.
Then spend some money on an fx-8320 or fx-8350 if you can afford it.
Have a look at replacing the psu for a cheaper, less powerful one.
Tell me your cooling solution
And consider overclocking with msi afterburner. I cannot express how easy it is...

Thanks for the reply.

for cooling i have a Arctic Cooling Freezer A30 and the fans that come on the Antec 900 case.

Would that gpu really be much better than the one i have ?
i can run high settings in bf4 at 60+ fps but when stuff kicks off explosions etc it drops right down to around 17fps is that just the card not being powerful enough or the cpu

also for the fisrt few days i was playing ok on high settings but now i still get drops on low settings dont know if its just a hardware problem or something

thanks

That gpu is afew years old and uses older technology. Not a massive issue but if you have the money to upgrade think about getting a newer card.

The fps drop is most likely due to the game optimisation. Bf4 is pretty new and they are still working on making the game less intensive.

That cooler is sufficient but maybe consider going to a closed loop watercooler. A corsair h100i is £88 and offers better cooling performance for the CPU, allowing less limit for overclocking...
