Help upgrading a Pentium D 820

Hello, this is my first time posting on TH. Anyway I bought this Dell pc that came with a PD 820(they had a core 2 duo e4300 as an upgrade but i wasn't that smart then). Anyway i only have cash and can't buy online and MicroCenter had a celeron e1500 for about $40 and I planned to get it (i think it's been delisted but it's relatively new so I'm hoping there would be new stock). Anyway I'm hoping to buy a Radeon 5770 later in the year and I'm wondering which would be a bigger bottleneck, thanks if anybody answers this. I can't OC and don't plan to. I'm trying to save up enough to get a Core 2 Quad 6700 off ebay but i'm hoping this would be a good interim for playing the latest game.(crossing my finger)

I would hold out for a used e6600 or q6600 on either your local craigslist or anandtech's for sale forum. skip the e1500. As you probably know, newer .45 cpus won't run on your board, so don't be tempted by any.

I know I might be asking much but I just want to know if the celeron is better than the Pentium D or not. I will take your advice for craigslist and anandtech though.

It will be quite a bit faster then your Pentium D but i wouldn't expect too much from it.

You know if you want something from ebay and you dont have a credit card you can go to the supermarket and get a ebay card load it with whatever you want and it cost like $5 to do it.

Currently on anandtech, there's a 2140 for $40 listed. It's similar to the e1500 when overclocked.

That's really nice, but couldn't find it and can't OC my Dell Mobo nor do I have a credit card. Still wish I could just switch out my crappy BTX mobo and get whatever the hell I want.

Yea they are with the gift cards and phone cards.
