This is a pc that I turned into a gaming pc kind of? I have an Athlon II x4 635 processor with an amd 765g chipset, 8 gbs of ddr3 ram and a gtx gigabyte 1050 2gb gpu; with a 250 watt power supply and 250 gb hdd. Now I am wondering can I upgrade the cpu and will that increase the fps during game play and make things alot more smooth? I seen that the AMD Phenom II X6 1075T was compatible with the 765g chipset so will that give this setup a good boost or will something else do the trick?

Solution
I personally think a Phenom II X6 would give you a very nice performance improvement over that Athlon in games, and should not bottleneck the GTX 1050 2gb. Just be sure that you do get a better PSU for that power hungry Phenom, and if your motherboard can, give that Phenom an overclock.
If you can get the Phenom really cheap if would be a "decent" upgrade but nothing that would improve by a lot.
Other then that you should think about upgrading your PSU first. Your GPU can pull up to 75Watt and the CPU ist probably able to pull more then 150 Watt. The Phenom however can pull nearly 250 Watts of power!
This could overload your PSU and kill it in the long term, risking to take some of your components with it.

Here are some tests about the power consumption:
