Mobo: ASRock B450M-HDV R4.0 - Original BIOS vers. 1.0
CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 1200 Summit Ridge. (no integrated video)
Memory: 32 GB RAM
Video Card:: ATI Radeon HD 5400 series
OS: Windows Pro 64-bit 22H2 build 19045.3208
Am upgrading the CPU to AMD Ryzen 5000G Cezanne (with Radeon Graphics)
I'm pretty confused and need a little help. Should I install the new CPU first and THEN after it's been installed update the BIOS? Or should I first install the new BIOS?
Second, I see another fellow here has a thread where he is doing the exact same thing. Accordinly I think I should be upgrading to Bios 4.9. I noticed you replied to him he should go directly to 4.9 but suggested he would also be okay to go to the latest 10.x
On the ASRock web site all of the several dozen Bios updates have this warning: " ASRock do NOT recommend updating this BIOS if you are going to use Pinnacle, Raven or Summit Ridge CPU on your system. *Before updating this BIOS, please also read the description in previous BIOS version."
My current CPU is a "Summit Ridge" If I keep scrolling down to the first available proper listed BIOS .where the "summit ridge" warning is not applicable it says, "*** If the current BIOS version is older than P1.40, please update BIOS to P1.40(PinnaclePI-AM4_1.0.0.6) before updating this version. **** User will not able to flash previous BIOS once upgrading to this BIOS version.
So if I follow the instructions the ONLY BIOS avallable that will work with my Ryzen 3 Summit Ridge CPU is the original version 1.0 or the next available 1.4 (which is 12 days older than the ORIGINAL vers. 1 released 5 years ago.
Almost all of the dozens of available updates also have multiple extra other "changes or other mods" that need to be done before you actually DO the initial update.
A step by step would help. Or would love to just know WHICH BIOS version I should use, and also which I install first? The BIOS update or the CPU? I just hope I can figure out what the proper procedure is once I know "what" BIOS to install. Also don't really know what is involved concerning the removable of the old plug in Video card and switching to the CPU integrated video? . - Rich
