hey guys

i cant really decide which way i should go so here i am ;D

current setup:
i5 4690k @4.3
asus z97p
gtx 1080
16 gb ddr3 1600
wqhd 144hz

aiming to spend not more than 400-500€ and it will be more or less just for gaming.

since my i5 is now more often at his limits i want to upgrade my cpu components.
im looking at the r5 3600 but i am not sure if the 2600 will do the same job. i dont need sli so i was looking for a b450 board. if pcie 4.0 will be a thing in the next years should i aim for a x570 board and go with the 2600 to save at this point and upgrade to zen 4 when needed later (maybe to more than 6 cores if games use them)? for the ram i will take some gskill tridenz 3200 or 3600. any board recommendations?

thx, more questions will come later i think xD

Solution
The 3600 is better for gaming, but the 2600 is excellent value for money for the increased core count. Basically if you want to game, a 3600 is the way to go, but if you do some multitasking, the 2600 price has plummeted so it's hard NOT to choose it.

A good B450 board:

Personally I replaced a 4670k with a 2700X on a X470 last year - today I would take a 3700X on a B450. But the 3600 (non X) is a sweet deal.

Any 3rd gen CPU will provide a noticeable improvement over the second generation.

If you have the budget for X570, it makes sense to opt for it.
3200mhz and 3600mhz were much more expensive than this 3000mhz.
I threw in a cheap tower cooler as the stock cooler is noisy.

hello again

thx for the input so far (y)

for the cpu i think i will go for the 3600, nice performance/price value and the ipc increase over the 2600 is welcome in some games i think. more than the 3600 is a bit too much for me and not needed i think.

i dont need a cooler since i have the nzxt kraken x62.

for the mainboard im still not sure. since i have to flash the bios, so i tend to a msi board. as far as i know you need a credit card to order the flash kit from amd, right? i read that the msi b450 carbon is great (https://geizhals.at/msi-b450-gaming....html?hloc=at&hloc=de&hloc=eu&hloc=pl&hloc=uk ) but for 30 euros more i can get the gigabyte x570 which i also wouldnt have to flash. i will look for some mortar reviews, maybe i will go with it.

ram i think i will take the gskill tridenz 3200 cl 16 since i have a tempered glass cube haha. are thos samsung b-dies?

I would assume AMD would want a credit card so they could bill you if you didnt return the loamer CPU.

Your options are
  1. buy a b450 without bios flashback and make sure the seller comfirms the board has a 3rd gen compable bios.
  2. By an MSI b450 with bios flashback. (B450 gaming plus or tomahawk are examples) This allows you to update the bios without an older cpu. You just need a usb stick.
  3. splurge and buy x570

I dont think those sticks are b die but should work nonetheless.
