Hello,

Would like to extend the life of my Dell XPS 730 It’s a great machine but I would like to speed up the performance and keep it for at least 3-5 more years. I know it will be a dinosaur by then. What improvements can I make as far as RAM (DDR2), Processor, MB or even Graphics card? I'm running Windows 7 64, and using a 50'' Plasma as Monitor because it sits in the living room. Installed hardware below.

P067D Processor, Q9550, 2.83, 12MB Yorkfield,C1

F642F Assembly, Card Planar Motherboard, Pentium M Dothan, 1.6GHZ, 2 MEGB, 533FSB...

TW149 Dual In-line Memory Module, 1Gx4 1333, 128X64, 8, 240, 1RX8

KY357 Card, Graphics, 9800G, UHMGA18

I don't recommend you put any more money into the dell. Alot of those boards fail suddenly; then you're possibly stuck with leftover parts that you can't use in your next system. Save for a brand new system. Dell systems aren't designed to be upgraded.

I realize I am commenting on an old post - but please note that your point is no longer valid for many DELL computers. DELL has started some time ago to use standard ATX configurations - as is indeed the case with the XPS 730. In fact, any ATX baord will fit the XPS 730 case - which is a premium-quality case that deserves to be reused if possible. :)
