hey guys. First time posting on here. I have an Ibuypower Trace 930 prebuilt. It has been fine for my needs until now but I recently bought an oculus rift s and was disappointed in the performance. I just bought a used EVGA 1080 ti FTW3 on eBay to upgrade the gpu but was wondering if you guys think my cpu is the problem. Please see below my specs for the prebuilt:

Motherboard - ASUS H110 Plus

RAM - ADATA XPG 288 Pin DDR4 2400

GPU - MSI GTX 1060 3GB

CPU - Intel i7-7700 3.6Ghz

CPU Cooler - AVC 80mm

Case Fans - AVC 120mm

Power Supply - Allied 500W Non Modular

SSD - ADATA SU600 120GB HDD - Western Digital Blue 1TB 7200 RPM

I know I’m going to need to update the power supply to use the 1080ti but would you guys also upgrade the motherboard & cpu? I’m new to all of this and any help is greatly appreciated. I know it would be easier to build from scratch but I would like to use as many components as possible from my prebuilt. Any help is appreciated

The I7 7700 is a pretty good CPU for current titles, although it can be outpaced by its newer unlocked I7 relatives in demanding games. I would suspect the 1080ti will bump performance a lot, even though I am not very knowledgable with VR.

What is the capacity of that ram? Is it 1 or 2 sticks?

2 Sticks. I’ve heard a lot of people tell me 32 gb is overkill but do you think it would make a difference? And budget for the PSU around $100-$150. Do you think 750 is enough or should I go for 850 w on the PSU
