My current PC specs:

Motherboard : MSI NF725M-P31 [MS-7597]

Processor : AMD Phenom II x6 1090T 3.20 Ghz, using @ 2.4Ghz at the moment [ Underclocked because it makes my PC to shut down whenever I load demanding games, might be heating issue or PSU ]

RAM : 4GB 1333Mhz DDR3

GPU : ATI Radeon 5450 HD 1GB

Because, I didn't have much mid-range options in my country, I had to put up with these 5 years ago. It's very hard to find the mid-range options here which is really frustrating, I can opt to contacting my relatives abroad to send me the exact products but that will just take too much time.

I'm still on a tight budget, I think I will keep the processor and upgrade the rest of the components around it. I will be using the PC for gaming primarily, for video editings and rendering from time to time. Please, suggest me the components which will cost me 400$ or less altogether.

Thank you so much for your time! :)

Lets reuse your cpu/cpu cooler as you wanted.

Since we are reusing the cpu lets reuse the motherboard and your single stick of 4 gigabyte DDR3 1333 ram as well, assuming your 4 gigabytes of ram is from a single dimm and not 2 - 2 gigabyte dimms

Lets also reuse your hard drive and the case, i just guessed at the case.

The only thing that needs to be bought is:

Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws Series 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory ($36.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB WINDFORCE OC 6G Video Card ($299.88 @ OutletPC)
Power Supply: Corsair - CSM 650W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($69.99 @ Newegg)

I'm assuming the computer does not have a beefy power supply due to having a ATI Radeon 5450 HD 1GB.

Hopefully crashing stops when you use the new power supply.

So for a cost of $406 you get 4 gigabytes more ram and a Geforce 1060.

That's one way.

The way Vapour is saying is to get a Ryzen 1200 and go with the Geforce 1050ti instead of the Geforce 1060.

Getting a Ryzen 1200 like Vapor mentioned would give slight performance, but it would force you to go with a Geforce 1050ti instead of a Geforce 1060.

The Ryzen 1200 is only slightly better than your current processor.

A score of 6,809 for the Ryzen 3 1200 and a score of 5613 for your Phenom, a difference of about 18%

I would say to stick with the cpu you have and upgrade the graphics card and add another 4 gigabytes of memory.

Had you had the money to upgrade to something like a AMD Ryzen 5 1600 with a cpu score of 12,349 I would have advised to upgrade to that for the literal 100+% upgrade in cpu performance.
But this would bring the overall budget with a Ryzen 5 1600, motherboard, Power supply, Geforce 1050ti and ram to about $580.

Adding another stick of ram is definitely good.

That phenom is a 125w cpu. So a good cooler and a psu is must. And I too recommend a gpu upgrade.

If you can get the g skill, good. Otherwise u have to tinker in the bios to make the rams run with the same timing and memtest for stability.

Thank you so much for the recommendation. Also, luckily I just found out that my uncle will be here in 2 weeks from USA. So, I guess I will order the components that I'll need to build this budget PC ! The price of components in my country is almost double than what it costs in the US!

Thanks a ton for your well detailed answer derekullo! I appreciate it :) But, I saw somewhere that 1060 paired with Phenom II x6 processor will cause bottleneck issues, I'm not quite sure about it though.

I just found out that my uncle who is currently living in USA will be here around 1st of December. That means, luckily I will get the components cheaper than what it costs in my home country, 1050ti alone costs around 430$ here!!!

So, let's just assume that I have made up my mind to go for a budget build with Ryzen 3 1200 CPU, because it will allow me to have an upgrade path in the future. Which motherboard will be the best? Like vapour said, will B350 be the best bet for me? And, I'm still unsure about the GPU, I read somewhere that 1050ti is the last in the series that will not have any kind of issue with x6 1090T. I'm sorry, I'm really confused. What should I do? haha 😀 Thanks again bro!

Hmm, that might be the reason why my computer frequently shuts off and shuts down again after 2-3 seconds of boot up. I am still using the stock cooler that came with the CPU. PSU is also a cheap one. Since, we don't have g.skill here in my country, I dont know much about it. What are the differences? Thanks for your time :)

Best case scenario would be to upgrade to a higher Ryzen model like the Ryzen 5, but that requires a more than $400 budget

Your Phenom would probably bottleneck a Geforce 1060, but at the same time you now have a Geforce 1060 without practically any wasted parts.

You can reuse the Geforce 1060 and the new corsair psu in a new build down the line and stay within your budget of $400.

You should still see a massive fps improvement with the Geforce 1060 + 8 gigabytes total of ram

Buying a cpu that is only a few steps stronger than your current just to get on upgrade path sounds like a waste of money because now when you want to upgrade to a Ryzen 5 you need to find a buyer for your current Ryzen 3.

When the time comes a few months down the line and you have saved enough you can build an appropriate computer with a Ryzen 5 series and reuse the power supply and Geforce 1060.

Of course, if you have the money you could do all this at once.

Ryzen 5 + Geforce 1060 + 8 gigabytes of DDR4 ram (can't reuse old ram) + New Power Supply

Hmm.. I agree. I didn't think about it. The thing that I forgot to mention is how poor my current motherboard is, it has gave up on me few times (shorting issue), I repaired it twice, I'm afraid it will eventually die which is why I think I need a motherboard upgrade as well. How much will it cost me if I only upgrade the motherboard to a better 'value for money budget motherboard' like B350 AM4 (if it is) and add 1060 to it along with PSU as you've suggested or, 1050ti if I want to save? Thanks again! :)

The problem with a cheap motherboard upgrade is it also means you need to buy all new ram which adds about $80 to the price if you want 8 gigabytes.

But if you believe your current one is failing then I would go with a

ASUS Prime A320M-K
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132977

Same as B350 but with 2 less sata ports and 2 less dimm slots.

Also when you replace the power supply + motherboard + ram + graphics card + cpu you are effectively just building a new computer and only reusing the case and hard drive.

MERGED QUESTION
Question from cNobi : "Please, suggest me the right components for my budget build :) So confused right now!"

I would suggest u to get the ram, cooler, gpu, psu upgrade from us. U can upgrade ur ram mobo cpu again when ryzen 2 releases.
Compared to running ur phenom at 2.4ghz, with that cooler, u can maybe even boost it to 3.8-4.0ghz. This would do for 45-50fps gaming in high settings which is perfectly fine for a 60hz monitor.

Umm.. I have made up my mind to sell my current setup which I'm sure will give me around 150$ more and go all out for budget Ryzen build enabling the future upgrade. What components will be the best value for money for the budget under 400 US$ ( + 100$ if I can sell the current setup )? I'm thinking to either go for Ryzen 3 1200 and Gtx 1050ti card or, Ryzen 5 1600 and lesser GPU like 960s or amd GPUs Counterparts for now which I'm sure will give me a reasonable fps in modern games in medium-high settings. Is that a good idea?

My current mobo is a massive headache, have already shorted 2 times, and I'm not sure about how long it will last, it is already 5-6 years old now. Thats why, I will have to invest in a new mobo + a good psu + a good cooler if I'm to keep the phenom II cpu and what is the point if I am going to need a mobo, ram and cpu anyways in the future because of no further upgrade path to phenom II cpus ! right? haha, I'm newb at these stuffs though. So, what components will I need if I go for ryzen 3/5 build. Thanks a ton for your time guys :) Much appreciated.

I frequently play CS GO, Dota 2, Pro evolution soccer 2016 at around 40-60 framerates on very low settings and 2017 does very poor on same settings, usually play Rocket league runs good at medium settings, Insurgency gives 20 to 50 fps at low settings, BF4 runs very poorly, had to uninstall GTA 5.

I plan to play
- PUBG (very interested to play this game at very good framerates on medium settings, I know the game is very poorly optimized), Witcher 3, BF1, recent and upcoming AAA titles on a decent framerates.
- CS GO ( standard fps, lower fps is badly affecting my performance on higher level )
- Dota 2 ( consistent 60+ fps will do at higher settings )

Thanks!

Solution
U can reuse the cooler, gpu and psu in ur upgrade. So I would really recommend that u stick to phenom for now and upgrade when ryzen 2 releases.
Like vapor pointed out, u can do above 40fps in gta v and pubg. That's fine for 60hz monitor.
U get a 1060 gpu which is perfect for 1080p ultra at 60fps.
The only thing u won't be using is a 50 buck 4gb ddr3 ram. Which if you ask me is a good trade of considering that u get a top of the line cooler and gpu.
