Help! Westinghouse L916HW 22" LCD Monitor Problem

Hello! I just got hooked up with older monitor for free but I'm having a couple of problems with it.

First off, the color is pretty goofy. When I first hooked it up it was extremely bright. Is there a program that automatically calibrates your color correctly? Second off, when there are darker colors like blues are blacks, it is "flickery". (If that makes sense). Is there a way I can fix that?

Please Note: *Hooked up to an older Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop* *1680x1050* *Never had problems hooking laptop up to monitors before* *Have no clue what category this goes under so I picked one randomly*

Yes, but those that really work by utilizing a combination of hardware & software are not free.
