Help! Windows 8 won't let me factory reset?

Hey all! I need some help. I'm aware of how to factory reset in Windows 8- go to settings, general, and then there's options with buttons underneath labeled "get started"- however, when I go to click it for a full factory reset, all files wiped and all, my mouse simply turns into the classic circular "loading" symbol for like .5 seconds, and doesn't give me a prompt to continue on with the process of factory resetting my computer.

I DO have malware/possible virus on my computer, which is why I want to factory reset in the first place. I managed to clear most of it up with Malwarebytes and get rid of the pop-ups and such yesterday, however despite the few hours window I had of assuming it terminated, Windows notified me of malware once again. The malware, I'm assuming, wouldn't let me open Malwarebytes after that.

I have a Dell laptop, with the BIOS password enabled to have me type in a password before allowing my computer to start up with Windows.

Fixed it. Updated to Windows 8.1. Solved the problem of the "get started" button not prompting me further. Probably a Windows 8 bug, or perhaps the malware (as I've come to realize I had a rootkit infection! Bad, inconveniencing stuff!)

It was a bit tricky to update to 8.1, given that my laptop screen is broken and connected to an external monitor (it blacks out when it's not actually on the desktop/windows screen, such as rebooting and, apparently, upgrading windows or factory resetting it). Patience is key, however. I waited about an hour and a half (if you have the same issue, I'd wait 2 hours to be safe) with a black screen while the fan whirred and got hot (my only indication that it was upgrading), and based on the restarting of my computer, I assumed BIOS had popped up (I was correct, given BIOS always starts up after a refresh/restart) and blindly typed in the password. Screen came on right after, and after some more waiting, I was able to navigate and completely factory reset my computer.
