I've been trying to upgrade to win10 but I guess there isn't enough space in the system reserved partition. I somewhat recently installed my new ssd and it automatically made the partition 30 MB. Do i have to add more space? Is that possible? I just want win10 before I have to pay for it....

Right, but i can't find a way to change add space to that drive. I unallocated 1GB from C: but when I go to extend drive in Y:(system reserved partition) its greyed out.

God anything but that, seems like such a *****. ....if I must...

You must. At least if you want Windows 10 to run properly. By having a 30mb partition you're well under the minimum requirement, and though you can try to extend an earlier (in block numbers) partition, it requires you to move every block of information that came after it. It'll actually be faster and safer to just reformat. Adding a partition after the Windows partition might work in some circumstances, but definitely not all.

See https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/dn898504%28v=vs.85%29.aspx and https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/dn898510%28v=vs.85%29.aspx for proper partition setups.

You shouldn't be opening any file at that point. You're going in to a folder and deleting files, not opening them.

Except that he has a 30MB partition rather than a partition with only 30MB remaining (which is what your link is for). Sure it's probably possible to run everything with a partition that small, but doing so will disable some functionality (like BitLocker)

And azaran is right about the BSOD. You need to make sure it's not a hardware issue or else there's going to be trouble.

You can make the Windows Partition bootable and then delete the System Reserved Partition so that this problem doesn't resurface. It involves a bcdboot command in command prompt(administrator) and then making the windows partition active in disk management. I don't remember the exact syntax of the command but if you google "delete system reserved partition" you should find it. There are a few complicated solutions that I couldn't get to work but this one did. You end up with a windows partition and the reserved partition (100 or 300mb) as unallocated space
