Recently got my hands on a nice gpu, I know I'm not experiencing the full potential of it with my current build so I'm trying to figure out the best option for now. I don't have a big budget right now so kind of just want to replace the biggest bottleneck but also want to look into the future. My question is should I just replace my cpu, (if so which one is the best?), or would it be better to just replace everything currently outdated? My current specs: 3070ti, i5 7600k, 16gb ram, z270 gaming m5 mobo, 650w psu. Thank you!

What display resolution and refresh rate do you have currently? Also, what sort of games do you play?
I'm currently on a 1920x1080 monitor with 144hz, not too concerned on upgrading that yet haha. And I usually play single player games: rdr2, pathfinder, cp2077. Waiting on Hogwarts and Starfield too. As far as multiplayer games I've been playing bf2042, planetside 2, and overwatch.

Perhaps get the proper bios and drivers.
Don't run unneeded background stuff.
That's all free.

What are you using for storage?

If I remember my chipset numbers correctly you are only going to be able to maybe go to a i9 instead of a I5. I don't think your motherboard will run 8th gen cpu. It is not going to be a huge difference

As soon as you start replacing motherboard and cpu and if upgrade too far the memory won't work. Not much left at that point maybe the disk and the case.

I guess it depends if it is causing you a problem. Most games are gpu bound

You could do something like this.

You will actually be limited to the i7-7700K, and checking eBay it runs about $170 used. The i7-6700K runs about $100. Both will be just shy of where you want to be.

Yes I primarily just use it for gaming, I don’t usually multitask on it. Currently have a 1tb hdd and a 500gb ssd, I don’t have that many games on them so it’s flexible right now

I did look up the supported CPU’s and the i7-7700k seems to be the highest supported. I’m thinking of going that route for now and later on once I have a bigger budget I can upgrade. I really just want to upgrade the biggest thing I need at the moment.

Personally, I'd go for the i7-6700K at that price difference. They are so close in performance. You can easily OC the 6700K past what the 7700K runs at stock. What cooler are you using?
