Hello guys hows it going I need your help.
I want to upgrade my cpu, I currently have a corei5-6400 but I want a corei 7 7700k.
I have a Gigabyte Sniper b7 motherboard they tell me I can place the corei7 7700k processor as long as I Upgrade the bios of my board, is that true? and is it safe to do it? Like I dont want to mess up my gpu or cpu.

Because I thought my board only supported 6th generation processors.

Anyways thank you very much in advance guys.

Solution
Should be that simple if the 7700k is listed on Gigabyte list of CPUs(very likely). I just did the same with my Gigabyte Z170 ITX board a few months back. I was using an i5 6500, and switched to 7th Gen i5 7600k. Only had to download latest uefi onto a USB stick. Reboot PC into UEFI, and point flashing utility to file. After flash is complete and system is up and running normal in Windows to check things out, shut down PC. Next, you can simply swap CPU and you should be up and running. Be aware you need to buy a cooler, as the 7700k doesn't include one.

Solution
So Liquid what would you advice me, I wont lie the bios update scares me a bit.
So what do you think its better, Upgrading to a corei 7-6700k or the 7700k in my case.
And does the 6700k have a cooler?
thanks again

Neither have cooler. I7-6700k and i7-7700k are virtually identically, Kaby Lake support Intel Optane and clock a little bit higher is all. On the other hand, Kaby Lake run hotter and stop you from getting Win 7/Win 8 update thanks to Microsoft.

The 7700k is slightly faster, but does seem to produce more heat for some and there is a bug of some kind causing temp spikes, even at idle. Like mentioned above, Kaby Lake 7700k requires Windows 10, if you are running Windows. For Optane, you need a 200 series motherboard as well. Neither includes a cooler.
