I haven't built a cpu since Windows XP. Not looking to game and my computing needs aren't that great. It'll be a Windows 10 Pro machine. Maybe I'll get into doing some light video editing now that I'm a family man, but the for the most part the machine will be used to surf the net and light office/business duties. I’m pretty sure this set up will handle a dual monitor if I decide to get another monitor. I think 16gig of RAM will do the trick (4gig dedicated to video and the rest for the CPU). I've been getting by with 8gig of ram and 2gig video card and that has been satisfactory.
I've had luck with AMD over the years, so I think I'll stick with them unless there is a compelling reason not to.
I came up with the following list of components and wanted some input before I pull the trigger. I'm pretty sure everything is compatible. I did notice some power supplies come with a PCI-E connector - is that critical to have or is that just for high power video cards? I assume I can use a Y connector to split the SATA connection from the power supply to power the DVD and SSD – please confirm. I doubt the DVD will see much use, but for $20, I may as well have it.
TIA - James
