Hi everyone,

I decided to build a computer mainly for programming purposes, but I also play games from time to time (nothing too demanding) and enjoy watching some movies. Right now I'm having some trouble with choosing the right parts even after the guides and reviews on parts that I've read. One of the builds I put together will cost me 870 Euros and the other 710 Euros, my dilemma is if there is that much of a difference performance-wise between the build. I'm also very open to suggestions on changing the parts or using an older version to save money.

Here's the list of parts I have chosen:

Processor:

1. Intel Core i5-3570K – 200 Euros
2. AMD FX 8350 – 168 Euros
3. Intel Core i5-4670K – 200 Euros

Motherboard:
1. ASUS z87 PRO – 170 Euros
2. ASUS M5A97 – 80 Euros
3. Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H – 150 Euros

Case:
1. Corsair Carbide Series 300R – 80 Euros

RAM:
1. G.Skill RIPJAWS 8 GB (2x4) – 70 Euros

Power Supply:
1. Corsair CX600M 600W ATX 2.3 – 70 Euros

Storage:
1. Western Digital WD1002FAEX 1TB – 90 Euros

Graphics card:
1. Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 2 GB - 150 Euros

I would really appreciate some feedback regarding compatability and the parts I've chosen. I was thinking of picking the Intel Core i5-4670K and the Gigabyte GA-787X-UD3H or the AMD FX 8350 and the Gigabyte motherboard. :)

Thank you all in advance!

Svet

I would recommend the Intel Xeon E3 1230/1231 v3. Its almost an i7 for the price of an i5. Also you dont need a motherboar for 170-200€. You should be good with a cheaper one. 60-100€ would be fine there. And you should go for a newer/stronger gpu. I would go for an amd r9 270(x)

Thanks for the tip Schulle :) I was thinking of going for the AMD FX 8350 because it's significantly cheaper, but by comparing the Intel Xeon 1230 v3 with it, the Intel CPU does look like the best way to go.

I checked for compatible motherboards for it and I think the ASRock H97M Pro4 makes a good fit and it's only 75 Euros, although some people suggest Gigabyte B85M-D3H which I found together with the CPU for 298 Euros :)

Sorry for asking so many questions, but this will be the first PC I built and I would like to get it right the first time around. :D

You should be fine with the asrock motherboard. But the h97 chipset is for the intel xeon e3 1231v3. For the previous version, the 1230v3, you'll need h87 chipset
