My buddy was getting poor frames trying to play games. I took a look in his case and realized he didn't have a graphics card and told him it was probably because of integrated graphics. He has since upgraded his motherboard to an MSI A88XM-E45V2 and also purchased an EVGA 1060 6GB graphics card and had Fry's install everything. I feel bad because he still can't play games over 1280-720p and hes now stuck with a new GPU and Motherboard. Is the processor just bad? he's got 12GB of ram. If the processor is garbage, whats a good processor for that motherboard and GPU? I personally like Intel but I was looking at the specs and his mobo only supports AMD.

Yeah that would definitely be his problem.

I would guess that his monitor is plugged into his motherboard instead of the GTX 1060. He also then needs to make sure he installs the drivers as well.

Your friend wasted his money in purchasing that motherboard. There really are no better processors for it.

That said that processor isn't totally horrendous, it should still allow games to play at 1080p with that GPU, and unless its a really CPU demanding game like Battlefield 1, they should play decently.

What games is he playing?

He's trying to play over watch. I figured that the 1060 would be more than enough. The gpu wouldn't fit with the motherboard he had so frys picked one out for him before he asked for my input. Hopefully he can take it back

Overwatch really should play find on that setup. Its not a demanding game at all.

That said I still wouldn't put money into that platform, because for other more demanding games that CPU is pretty weak.

What is his issue?

I think I might have the problem. In the settings of overwatch it says that his gpu is the Radeon r7. If I believe correctly, that's the integrated graphics of the CPU, which would mean that it's bypassing or not recognizing the 1060. I told him to look under dxdiag under display and send me a picture of what's there. I'll post later when I find out more
