There appears to be a known problem with these motherboards and SP2 - when
you are
running with a Prescott processor. Extracts from MS XP2 newsgroup.......
This is a known problem. Some systems with a Prescott CPU on a i865 and
i875 chipset motherboards have this exact problem with Service Pack 2.
The only way to work around it is to disable the L1 and L2 cache for
your processor. As you can imagine, this will absolutely kill the speed
of your computer. I would disable the L1 and L2 Cache, boot into XP,
uninstall SP2, enable L1 and L2 Cache, and use SP1 until a fix is
released.
You need to apply a BIOS update to your motherboard, if your
manufacturer has released one yet. See
<http://forum.aumha.org/viewtopic.php?t=7447> for more, and an intermediate
workaround of disabling L1/L2 cache
The list of motherboards known to have this problem has expanded to include:
Albatron PX865 PE Pro
Shuttle SB61G2
Jetway i875P
Soyo P4I865P
Aopen AX4SG Max
Asus P4P800-E deluxe
Abit IS7-V
Foxconn 865A01-G-6EKRS
