help with Aureal Vortex 2500

I have:
-Athlon XP 1700
-Abit KT7A
-384 mbs RAM
-Aureal Vortex 2500

I recently installed Win2k Pro on a clean HD. During install, Win2k used its own driver files for my Aureal Vortex 2500. That was fine, since I didn't have drivers and I didn't feel like downloading it. Anyway, every so often, I'll lose sound w/o warning. Only way to get it back is to reset computer. Should I look for Aureal drivers? I used Aureal sound card with win2k before, and never had the problem when I used Aureal, not win2k drivers. Any suggestions?
