Hi there, I am seriously considering buying a 2nd router for myself mostly. I live with my family in a moderately big house (2900sq ft) and the router we have is already bad. It’s a actiontec MI424WR. It doesn’t even support 5ghz or 802.11ac. I used to have my PC a floor right above it and barely got 1mb/s. My ping would usually be 80s and often go to the 100s-500s. Sometimes I even got 2000. I had to move my pc even farther and often my phone will disconnect to WiFi bc the connection is so horrible. So I want to know one, how do you set up two routers on one network, and two, a good 2nd router under 50$. Thanks and have a good day.

What I recommend you do, is buy wireless access point(s) {APs}. Disable the WIFI completely on the Actiontec router (turn off the radio) in the setup screens. Then use the APs for all your WIFI. The Ubiquiti AP-LITE are more than you want to spend ($90) but they will provide some of the best WIFI coverage.

For around $50, I recommend you get a used Asus RT-AC68U on E-Bay. You can then configure the Asus as an access point.
