Help with changing fan speeds

Hi guys,

In my PC I want my case fans to run a bit faster, or just in general have some sort of control over my case fans. My problem is I'm not sure which fan is which. All I see in SpeedFan is Fan 1-5, and these don't correspond to the fan numbers on the motherboard. I would change one of these to 0%, just for seeing which one stops, therefore indicating which fan number that is. I don't do this because I am too worried about shutting off my CPU fan or a GPU fan, and possibly causing some damage. Can someone help me as to find which number corresponds to which case fan, is having my CPU fan turned off for a minute cause some damage?, and how do I quickly revert my settings to defaults when using SpeedFan.

Note: One fan is constantly running at about 450rpm whereas the other one is running at about 1100rpm. Does this indicate anything, as I have one 120mm exhaust fan, and one 240mm intake fan?
Thanks for you help.

Sorry about that,

Its a Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H .

They have a lot of utilities up on their web site, but none appear to be capable of monitoring fan speeds.

I have speedfan 4.49 on my system, but I only use it to check temps every now and then. I do see right on the main panel:

Sys Fan: 0 RPM
CPU Fan: 1439 RPM
Aux Fan: 0 RPM
Aux1 Fan: 0 RPM
Aux2 Fan: 936 RPM

Down below those, I see Sys, CPU and Aux entries each with 65% and up/down clickers.

So I am not sure why you are not seeing the same thing.

Do the different speeds that they are running at indicate anything?
I have one 240mm intake and a 120mm exhaust, do the different RPM numbers help me indentify which is which?

Thanks for your help

4.49 vs 4.51... Looks like the top fan in yours is the CPU, and my guess is that Fan 3 is aux1.

Your version has the entries for all 5 fans below the other numbers, mine only has 3 of the 5.

As for how useful that will be, I can't answer that. Never used SpeedFan for that.
