I am currently in the process of upgrading a DELL VOSTRO 420 PC. Motherboard supports SATA II connectors (300mbs max). I only need 120gig SSD for OS and some basic apps, will be using the current HDD as the secondary.

I understand from other threads, performance-wise, I won't be able to fully benefit from SSDs total speeds hence not sure which SSD would be best for me.

I'm currently looking at Kingstons V300 (450mbs) and UV400 (550mb). Are there any other cheaper alternatives with lower speeds near about the SATA II's 300mbs mark? If not, which of these 2 will be best for my machine considering overall performance as I don't know much about SSD's besides RW speeds. Any alternative recommendations for reliable, good performance and cheaper SSD would be most appreciated - i dont mind used ones too.

120gb goes faster than you think. Also, with looking at benchmarks at certain ssd's, they are being benched at unusual loads which you will not hit. They are very small performance differences so I would look more at longevity if I was in your case. Going for used ssd's can work, but with past experiences, if you get one that has been rewritten 300Gbs of space already, it can limit you.

I only chose Kingston as I purchased one last year for my laptop which till this day works amazing! I'm open to any brand, providing its reliable and up to standard. The main reason for choosing these 2 was the speed difference in comparison to my mobo's SATA II limitation of RW 300mbs.

Limit as in RW speed reduction or capacity? Actually judging by the 'used' vs 'new' pricing, not much difference and I may just opt for a new one. I will know for sure once I know which one I should be purchasing

I'd rec a WD Blue 240GB model then. About $10 more than the V300 120GB but with double the storage space. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820250078&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

Cant find these in the UK
Plus I was originally going for a 60gig one which is more than enough for the OS and the applications I intend to add. Then changed my mind and opted for a 120gig one as a safety net.
