Hello,

I am currently building my new computer; I purchased an AsRock Z77 Extreme 4 motherboard and a Corsair Cx750M PSU.
The CPU power connector is keyed differently to the one on the motherboard (they are both 8-pin). The motherboard manual says that it needs a 12V power input. On the motherboard, the power socket is labelled Atx12v1.

I think that the cable from the PSU will still fit even though it is keyed differently, should I put it in? Have you got any other advice?

Thanks for your time.

What is your definition of "keyed differently". Connectors being keyed makes sure wrong cables don't fit, an 8pin pci-e power connector will not fit in an EPS 12V 8 pin socket because particular holes are not square in a particular pattern.

You make it sound like it's just calling things by different names, that's not "keying"

By keyed I mean the shape of the connectors: Differently keyed, different shaped connectors.
The CPU power cable on my PSU is different to the socket on the motherboard, but there is a modular cable with the PSU that is keyed the same as the one on the motherboard, should I use this?

the CPU power connectors normally break up into two 4 pin connectors while pci-e 8 pin connecors will normally split up into a 6 pin and a 2 pin connector.

I've had one product shipped with the wrong connector attached to the cable, so I wouldn't want to tell you to "use the cable that fits" as EPS 12V 8pin connectors and PCI-E 8 pin power connectors are wired differently.
