Im very knew to upgrading PC parts this week has been the first time I have ever done anything of that nature. Just wanting to get opinions on which CPU to get and why.
My current specs are -
MOBO: Asus a68-k
CPU: AMD a8-7600
GPU: GTX 1060 6gb
RAM: 16gb DDR3
Cooler: Coolmaster hyper 103

I have only found out recently that my MOBO isnt compatible with a whole lot so my options are quite limited... But so far I am thinking of getting either the AMD a8 7650k or the AMD athlon x4 860. I know both arent much of an upgrade but I was thinking about overclocking either one that I get. If I had the cash I would love to upgrade my MOBO+CPU+RAM but at the moment im just looking for a cheap $100~ish upgrade that can potentially last me 2 years+

Thank you !

1. I will assume your motherboard is Asus a68mh-k as the stated Asus a68-k doesn't seem to exist on Asus web site nor other sites.
2. your motherboard can handle a max of 100 w TDP as per http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-ASUS/A68HM-K.html
3. best possible CPU upgrade you could do for this Motherboard, for the price you set as a limit (100$) would be : A10-7850K can easily be had for 80-100$ on ebay.

IMO you might as well just stick with what you have and keep the extra ~$100 towards a full upgrade. Both the CPUs you mentioned are indeed better and there are a few stronger CPUs on your socket but none give much of a performance jump worth the money, even with Overclocking you're looking at <15% performance jump. But again this is just my honest opinion. They are already outdated so buying one now when looking for 2+ year potential isn't really achievable. Try save up for a nice Kaby Lake i5 or Ryzen 5 combo if you can they'll be a nice jump and a solid pairing with the rest of your system. Hope this helps :)

Quick comparison:

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately I was trying to avoid upgrading to either of those CPU as it would require me to upgrade my MOBO and possibly RAM if I wanted the Ryzen (which i really really do) Would you be able to give me some feedback on this build please? (I only chose the necessary things and I already own the GPU and RAM)

Thanks again for you help!

Edit: I want to use the MSI b250 MOBO but it isnt compatible apparently on PC part picker? But it has a 1151 chip set and DDR3 am I missing something?

As stated on PCPartPicker, the 6600K needs a CPU cooler (K series Intel CPU don't come with one) and all the Motherboard take DDR3L on Socket 1151 not standard DDR3. DDR3L is low voltage, 1.35V instead of 1.5V which is why the kit you listed won't be compatible unless you run it at 1.35V but AFAIK it will still likely not work.
