Help with CPU throttling

My CPU will go from around 60-70% usage while gaming to 30% and my fps will suffer because of this, can anyone help?

My CPU will go from around 60-70% usage while gaming to 30% and my fps will suffer because of this, can anyone help?

Specs:

CPU: AMD FX-8120
Motherboard: MSI 970A-G45
RAM: 16gb DDR3
GPU: GTX 1080 8GB

It seems to do it at random times in the game (Destiny 2). Heavy combat is more prone to having problems, but even just sitting around in the social area my CPU will throttle. Whenever the CPU throttles the game drops frame rate drastically.

(I just built my first gaming PC so I know very little but am happy to provide any information I can)
