Lots of alternatives..... but depends what "work" means to you.

There's no i7 that'll directly rival the E5-2680v2 in all applications.
In gaming, the E5 will fall short of probably even an i7-2700K
In workloads that will properly use 10c/20t, even a modern(ish) i7, like a 7700K would fall some way short.

An i7-8700K would probably outperform the E5 most of the time -- except situations where >12t are truly used.

For cheap/used, 3770, 3770K, 4770, 4770K, 4790, 4790K are all still plenty powerful for a lot of users, and will use DDR3. I...

It doesn't really compare, you're looking at two different animals there.

For gaming, the 7700K is the hands-down winner.

For "work", entirely depends what kind of "work" that is.

The E5-2680v2 is a 10c/20t server class chip at 2.8GHz from 2013.
In a lot of "work"loads, it's probably still plenty viable.

Are there any cheap alternatives to have great work and gaming performance without the need to buy ddr4 memory? What Intel Core processor has similar performance to the E5-2680v2?

Why you wanna server/workstation cpu? What you gonna do? You are pro, or just beginner? Work a lot, or just wanna learn something?
A lot of people still happy with i7-3770/4770/4790/k cpus, these still good for money, gaming and workstation. You don't see big difference up to 8 gen intel cpus, and these still strong to handle gpus like gtx 1070/1070 ti.
