Help with cryptocurrency mining

Hey guys,

So I've been thinking about getting into cryptocurrency mining, and I was wondering if I could mine while I'm at school and then use my PC for gaming again in the afternoon. Can you do that, or do you just have to have a PC that only mines and you can't use it for anything else. I was also wondering if my PC was powerful enough for mining. I have a second generation i5, a GTX 1050 ti, and 8 GB of RAM. I'm not expecting it to do much, but I figured I might as well check it out cause it could get me some money. The cost of electricity will probably be more than any theoretical coin value you might mine.
What research have you done into this? There are multiple calculators online, for all the various mining schemes.
