Hello !
I'm building my first gaming desktop & needed some help. I don't want to bother with overclocking, so please keep that in mind.

So far, I'm thinking about:
CPU: i5-4690k

CPU Cooler: CM hyper 212 evo (i heard it's good & it's pretty cheap)

GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 G1 Gaming 4GB GDDR5

H.D.D: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200 rpm

Mo-Bo: Asus H97M-E

PSU: XFX TS Series 650W 80 Plus Bronze PSU OR ZALMAN ZM600-GV 600w 80 Plus Bronze (any thoughts ??)

RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance LP 8GB (1 X 8GB) DDR3 1600 CL9 V1.5 Dual Channel (i will get another one later to get total 16GB, but for now i'll settle for 8GB)

Monitor: Samsung S24D300HS 24 Inch LED <- seems good, anyone owns it?

Case: This is where i'm at complete loss, i have so many options that are relatively same price :
Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-01 / SPEC-03 / 300R Compact
OR Cooler Master HAF 912 / Cooler Master K550 K-Series
OR NZXT S340
OR ZALMAN Z9 Plus
I would appreciate any recommendation for desktop case ! Any thoughts about the whole build??

Thank you all for your time !!:)

Get a 2x4GB kit for RAM. I've heard better reviews about the Cryorig H7 over the 212 EVO. Maybe change the 2TB to 1TB and buy a SSD with the money you save. Case seems to be preference, look for many fan spots and remember is possible have air pull from front and out back and in from side and out top. Look for one that has space behind where you place the MoBo for better cable management

If you are not overclocking then there is no need to get the k version for your cpu. I also suggest getting an ssd alongside the barracuda for the startup it really does make a noticable difference. I suggest the NZXT S340 case, but that is more just a style preference.

any reason for going with the 212 if you're not going to overclock? you're also paying more for a cpu that is meant to be overclocked. guessing a better price on it.

created a build that would let you overclock if wanted better than a h97 since you have the processor and cooling for it, subbed the cooler for something a bit less hype-priced than the h212... added a ssd boot /main drive (could downgrade the hdd to 1tb and look to up the ssd to 240gigs)

altered build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/sWjdTW

case suggestions:
with an optical drive: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2

without: NZXT S340

window not important: Corsair 200R or CM n200

btw, i hate the spec cases from corsair... extremely disappointing for the price they charge, totally loathe the pci solution on the back, and hated running cables in it... the tinted window is nice, but then again you also only get a single fan...

pcpartpicker doesn't seem to want to load for me :( any chances of just telling me the name of the parts? Sorry for any inconvenience

I figured most stock fans aren't that good and I would need any cheap decent cpu cooler for better performance (PS: I live in Egypt & the room temperature can get hot).
For the CPU, i picked the "k" because simply the non-k one is out of stock & the prices are very close.
For the HDD, any idea if SSHD are any good? the SSD are kinda expensive. There is a "Seagate SSHD 7200RPM 3.5" 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache " a tiny bit more expensive than the one i was originally thinking of buying. I just don't know if it's worth it.
I'm the type of person who keeps the PC on for days, so restart time is not an issue for me. This is why i prefer going for memory size rather than SSD speed

EDIT: i managed to open the link you gave me. Thnx !

It turns out, i need to use Corsair Carbide Series 300R Compact OR Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-03

because the Gigabyte gtx 970 is too long & won't fit into the other cases i mentioned.

I guess now i need to check which is better..Any ideas?

of those two go with the carbide... not a fan at all of the pci retetention of the spec cases. unless you prefer the aesthetic of the spec.

the n200 wouldn't work?

Those aren't available for me. Im going to go for Corsair Carbide.
I'm still trying to figure out, which is best: Corsair Carbide Series 300R Compact vs Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-03
