Hi all! I've been looking at motherboards all summer and can't quite decide on the one I like the most. The one thats caught my eye thus far is the Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD5 TH, but as of lately I've been interested in the Asus MAXIMUS VIII EXTREME. I was wondering if anyone in the community has a experience with either of the two or even any other recommendations for motherboards.

My goal for the build is to have a system that can edit photos and videos and also run 60FPS gaming.

It's going hold an i7 6700K Processor, 16GB RAM, a single GTX 1080, SDD and HDD.

Thanks in advance!

It does, which is why I initially asked if they have specific features you are after, i.e. you point out the wireless, the Extreme runs about $480 the Hero $220. For that price difference (and my preference) I'd rather have a good USB WiFi adapter than the onboard. The Extreme does also have additional features besides WiFi - do you want/need them to the tune of what $260?

@rwayne
I have the NZXT H440 and for a price range I'm shooting for less than $300.

Do either of those mobos have specific features you need? Asking as the Z170 Hero should easily fit your needs, and vary well. That's what I chose and it's taken everything I've thrown at it (including 980s in SLI and 290Xs in XFire, numerous CPU coolers and a wide range of DRAM), OCs very well, runs cool, great BIOS...it's hard to beat ;)

@Tradesman1 this is the Asus MAXIMUS VIII HERO?

I'm just curious because when I spec'd the HERO and the EXTREME side by side it looks like the EXTREME had a few extra specs like wifi and bluetooth.

@Tradesman1 I guess I got caught up with the extra stuff but seeing as you've had experiences with the HERO I'm going to consider it as my final motherboard. I really appreciate your feedback and quick responses.

If I can pick your brain on the ROG STRIX GTX1080 A8G Gaming Graphics Card? How has yours been handling?
