Mobo - Asrock Z97 Pro 3

Was using my PC, shut things down, installed a low profile USB 3.0 connector, covers back, plugged the PC back in, and then turned on. Before turning off, the wired ethernet connection was just fine. When I turned back on, no ethernet connection.

Error message when I go thru Device Manager and get into the connection is:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)

{Operation Failed}
The requested operation was unsuccessful.

So far, I have to no avail:
Restarted the PC;
Disabled, then enabled the device;
Updated the drivers, both locally, but then also from the web;
Uninstalled the device, then restarted the PC;
Downloaded and installed the LAN driver from Asrock's site.

Only thing I haven't done is removed the CMOS battery, but I'm too chicken to do that.

Anything that I may have missed? I really want to avoid buying a new motherboard, especially since I'm using a 4690k that has performed so admirably.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice.

Well, it could be your ethernet I was having problems with mine too. Just leave it unhooked and try to find it in the task manager, then enable it if it is disabled. If you cannot then try getting a new ethernet cable or a cheap wifi adapter. If that doesn't work then you need a new mobo.

Since the last thing you did was to install a new device, try removing that USB3 card. If the ethernet works again you would seem to have uncovered an incompatibility, possibly due to an IRQ sharing error between the ethernet controller and the USB card. Further, check if the issue is resolved if you can place that new card in a different slot.

Wow I see you on every form tonight lol

Unplug the physical connection to your PC, start your machine, and then check your device manager or look for a notification from Windows saying you have no connection. Shut down, plug it back in, and see if it gets going again. There should be no reason the installation of an adapter would wipe out your ethernet drivers or connectivity. Try this and see if it works as you should be able to go to:

Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Ethernet Connections

Click on your Ethernet adapter and then select the "diagnose connection" option that appears once you've clicked on your connection.

This isn't a bad choice, either.

Thanks, I will give that a try. Appreciate the reply.

I installed this - https://www.moddiy.com/products/USB-3.0-20%252dPin-Internal-Header-Adapter-Cable-%28Low-Profile-Connector%29.html to my mobo to plug the front header 3.0 jack. My current wifi adapter is plugged into it and working. I'll disconnect the usb extension and try it out. Thanks!

Thanks.

I shut down the pc, open the cover, disconnected the usb 3.0 extension, then started the pc back up. Same problem.

I also shut down the pc, disconnected the ethernet cable, started back up, shut down, then plugged ethernet back in, started back up and same problem.

What I did the troubleshooting bit, then clicked into the details, I got the following:

Yeah, I did restart the router and modem. I started experiencing this issue on Friday morning. Left town to go camping and when I did, shut down the modem and router. Came home today and fired up all of the equipment with no change.

I think I'll take this issue back up tomorrow. Really appreciate the quick, thoughtful replies.
