I'm planning a new gaming pc soon and i'm planning on getting a intel cpu what would be the best one to get i'm not planning on overclocking i was thinking the i5 4460

The 4460 is $190. For another $60, you can get this Xeon, which basically gives you i7 performance for less cost (because it doesn't come with on board graphics). It also supports hyperthreading.

At the moment, non what so ever. But games are definitely starting to use 4 cores, and are only going to get better at utilizing more than just 4 in the future. So I would think they will eventually take advantage of hyper threading. Plus, if you ever get into something that could use hyper threading in the future, you have it.

If you don't have a budget, I would suggest getting the i7 4790K. The K at the end of the numbers means it has an unlocked multiplier, and can be very easily overclocked. Now I know you said you wouldn't want to, but it is actually $15 cheaper than the non overclockable 4790.

$300 for the 4790k is a really good price. If I was in the market for a new CPU, I would jump on that quickly.

for just gaming got with an i5. If you also render go with a xeon or i7. Bottom line is if you worry about upgrades down the road I would just get a Z97 mobo and an i5 4690k and overclock it when you need more performance. That day wont come for some time though.
