Help with FreeSync

I got a FreeSync monitor as a gift recently, and I have a Nvidia graphics card. When I enable FreeSync, my refresh rate bumps up to 72 from 60. Is this actually showing or is it still only displaying 60 due to my Nvidia GPU?

It may be able to run at 72hz,but freesync certainly isn't working. What monitor is it?

It's a Samsung Curved CF591

That is a 60hz monitor that can be overcloked to 72hz. It will run at 72hz with or without freesync.
