[SOLVED] Help With Gaming PC Build

Hi all,

After a long time, I am looking to build a new pc next month and I need help with choosing components for it.
At the moment I have AMD Phenom II x4 945, 8 gigs of ram and Zotac 660 GTX.
This is mainly gaming and entertainment pc only.

My build atm:
CPU: Intel i5-8600 (Is it worth going i7-8700 and not buying NMVE SSD listed below?) Price: 230 Euros
CPU COOLER: HyperX 212 Black RGB (Is it overkill for i5?) Price: 40 Euros
MB: ASUS ROG STRIX B360-F (I am looking best MB there is with B chipset, the internet said this one) Price: 120 Euros
RAM: Kingston or Corsair 16GB, 2x8GB 2666Mhz (Mainly some reputable brand) Price: Around 150 Euros
SSD: SAMSUNG EVO 970 250GB NMVE (Does this help a lot?) Price: Around 90 Euros
PSU: Thermaltake SE 630W (My friends have this PSU for years, they say its good) Price: Around 63 Euros

That’s: 693 Euros and ill have 700 to spend next month.

From my current build I have:
GPU: Zotac 660 GTX
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250gb
PC Case


This is the first part of upgrading, after this one ill buy new GPU something like RTX 2070 or 2080 with 4k Monitor (LG 27UK600-W) and a new case something like NZXT H500i.

Also, I am looking to continue upgrading pc every 2-3 years now

I would reuse your Case & SSD, sell your other parts then get something like this...

Thanks for the Build recommendation, but I am looking for Intel PC, without HDD-s, and much faster GPU ill buy later on this year.

Once you make that jump to 4K the differences between CPU's becomes very minimal so the extra money your spending for Intel really isn't going to be worth it and if anything would be more of a reason to go AMD so you can get a card that will actually handle 4K such as the RTX 2080 which is pretty much the min for smooth 4K gaming. If your stuck on Intel and not overclocking then grab the 8400 as the pricing for the 8500/8600 is way to high for such a minor increase in speed.

Thanks for the info, since 4k is the plan, 8400 is like 30-40 euros less.. I am using AMD at the moment, but I want to try Intel this time (i don't hate AMD). I might spend more and get a bigger SSD instead.

You can save up a couple bucks by going for lower frequency memory, because it doesn't impact games a whole lot. As in brand, Corsair shouldn't be a bad choice. Just as wildcard said, the 8400 should do the job as long as you do not plan to OC. Also, investing is a bigger capacity SSD would be a good idea if you can do it.

Wow, thanks for the info I found corsair LPX 2400 16gb for 50 euros less. That's a big save! it seems i5 - 8400 is the best buy since 8600 is 60 euros more expensive!

Memory frequency has an impact in productivty, but gaming/entertainment , not really. Might be wrong, but I think that if you use an iGPU and have higher frequency memory, you get a small boost in performance, other than that I am at least not aware of anything.

I've got 660 GTX until I go for something much higher in a few months Not planning to use IGPU for sure

Any gaming over 1080 is neglible between intel and amd.
Even at 1080 its still extremely close
As for the OP saying about upgrade, when you say upgrade in 2-3 years - you mean a complete new system with DDR5 etc, not just updating a CPU like you could with with AMD - you want to do ALL of it again?

A complete system upgrade, new CPU, RAM, and MB. I am planning to upgrade more frequently. I've had this pc for 9 years, that's not going to happen again
