Help with Graphics card upgrade

I bought a system (2500k and P8p67 PRO....) around 6 months ago with a crappy HD 5450 graphics card. Now i got around 450 pounds for an upgrade... I am wondering about the below configuration taken into account that I wish to mine some bitcoins too:

6870 Triple Xfire (dunno if the drop from x8 to x4 will affect the speed)
6950 Xfire
6970 + 6950 Hybrid Xfire

or just buy a GTX 580 for the sake of owning one (which will run at x16 rather than x8 with dual GPU config)

or wait until HD 7xxx come out (which is probably ages away since I hear 28nm process hasnt even started yet, I am probably wrong)

If you wait,you can't every buy anything,because there is always something new around the corner.
I don't recommend Triple CFX because it doesn't scale as good as 2-way CF;furthermore,it's better to get 2 same cards to it comes down to 2 6950's or 1 580.
2 6950's are faster but they are more noisier,run hotter and have more power consumption.(don't worry about dual x8 speed.Most of the time,it's on par with dual x16)

is the micro-stuttering effect obvious on the 6950 Xifre? and also can my PSU support it when I OC both the CPU and the GPU rather heavily? I got 4 case fans, 2 CPU cooler fans and 5 HDDs in my case.

i have xfire 6950, only game i have noticed MS so far is metro 2033, says i get average 40+ fps maxed settings but it does stutter like a bitch, annoying

phew... lucky Metro 2033 is a game i dont play... I only play BF, CoD, and Civ, maybe play a bit o the game they give along with the card 😛

Btw what brand u guys using? and is reference the only ones that can be unlocked? ty

Single GTX580. If you find it insufficient in a year or more, SLI for a stronger configuration. How long do you plan to own that system? 2 years? Go with the single best card now, it will last you a while at current game evolution trends. I know it's impossible to predict the future, but no company seems to want to put money or time into their engines for truly the 'next generation' of graphics and gameplay. That GTX580 will be playing games long into the future.

Yes, that will be great for bitcoin mining; nVidia cards don't even break even on their power costs.

I was so confused at that last post I sought out the 'outside' internet. Now I return to this thread, with a big WTF? Can't use CPU because they suck at integer math, Nvidia doesn't balance out power to performance...this sounds like the Radeon clan created their own secret money system...of not real money.
