I have the gigabyte gtx 970 g1 gaming edition. I'm able to achieve 1480mhz on the core without artifacts (1530mhz with artifacts).

With a +37mv voltage Inc I'm able to get close to 1550mhz. Is it safe to run it at that voltage? Assuming I play 2hrs a day and plan to use the GPU for 2-3 years?

Memory overclock have affected core significantly. I could get a little more than 200mhz without affecting the the core much. Is it worth it?

Please help a noob out

The Maxwell architecture can easily handle 1.3v before it starts to degrade. The voltage that you can set via Afterburner or Precision X is limited by the bios. The max you'll get to is 1.256v most likely, MAYBE 1.262v....so, as long as your temps are ok, you're good to set that slider to whatever you want.
