Hi,

I am just gathering a list of components for my new Hackintosh that will also dual-boot into Windows 7.

I just need some help on some details and I thought people here may have some good opinions.

Here is my component list so far.

Intel Core i7 3770K 3.5GHz
ASUS Sabertooth X79 Motherboard
Nvidia GTX 680
Corsair Vengeance 32 GB : 4 x 8 GB Memory - DIMM 240-pin - 1600 MHz
Seagate Barracuda 3TB HDD
Switch 810 Case

Would this be good for a Hackintosh? This all works as a PC (it should fit into the case)

I would like to run OSX 10.8 on this when it arrives.

Also, can anyone recommend a good power supply and sound card?

Thanks,
VisualAzza

ASUS boards are not as good for hack-mac builds. That CPU doesn't even work on a x79 chipset anyway. For a good set of components that work well, see:

http://tonymacx86.blogspot.ca/

They recommend a set that is known to work well, and has support from that site.

For your power supply,

A nice corsair, or seasonic will do. 650 watts seems more than you'll use.

For a sound card, if you want it to work both in Mac OS X and Windows, you need to get an EXTERNAL ONE (like USB), otherwise stick to the onboard sound.

Check out that link above, and it has a budget and non-budget build of CustoMacs. The 2nd build is similar to yours, but guaranteed to work.

Thanks for the info.

I got the processor I wanted wrong. It's this one http://xbox360.fraffy.com/intel-i7-970-core-i7-six-core-processor-3-20ghz8mb/

Would that one work with any of these motherboards or should I go with the Intel Core i7-3770K

GA-Z77X-UD5H
GA-Z77X-UP4-TH
GA-Z77X-UP5-TH

I would really like to have 32GB of RAM so is the one I selected right for the job, or is there a better one?

Thanks guys

That's an Old Processor now, circa 2010... It won't work on any of today's boards. It uses the now outdated LGA1366 motherboards. If you want to spend fresh money on new products, I'd recommend today's i7 or i5 chips, these are much faster, and power efficient.

The i7 3770K is good, the 3570K is good too if you don't need 8 threads, and 4 is enough. They both overclock like crazy. Both of these are LGA1155 chips, and will work with any of the 3 gigabyte boards you mentioned. If you need that much ram, you will likely populate all 4 ram slots on your board.

You can pick and choose your ram of 32 GB kit from here:

Thanks everyone.

My final build specification is:

Intel Core i7 3770K 3.5GHz
GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UP5 TH
Nvidia GTX 680
G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 32GB
Seagate Barracuda 3TB
Corsair Carbide Series 500R
Corsair 650watt
TL-WDN4800 WiFi Adapter

I'll worry about the sound card another time :)

Sounds good. Since you got one of TonyMac's recommended motherboards, the sound will likely work.
