Help with HD4870 fan running over 100% at boot

Hello everyone,

I am experiencing a weird phenomenon with my XFX Radeon 4870 512mb GPU. The card is about six months old with the stock hs/fan and in about the last month or two it has started making an extremely loud noise for the first 2 minutes after the computer is started up. I can't remember it doing this when I first got it so I'm wondering why this is happening. During games and after the first two mins in Windows it is totally normal and not very loud at all. I also tried ramping up the fan speed to 100% in Afterburner and it is nowhere near as loud. Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Gigabyte US2H 785G MB
Phenom II X4 955 BE w/CM TX3
2x2GB Samsung DDR2
Corsair vx550w

Try cleaning the fan on the card.It is possible that dust accumulated over time is causing this.

Thanks but I have checked the fan and there is minimal to no dust as I check it regularly. I just find it weird since the card works fine, it makes me think there may be something wrong since the sound is not normal though.
