Hello,
I am looking for help with an HP 920c Deskjet -- any suggestions are
greatly appreciated...

Here is the issue: Without any warning or apparent reason, one day
the printer started saying there is a problem with the black ink
cartridge (and yes, I am using official HP cartridges, not a
remanufactured or refilled one). Per the HP support Web site, I have
tried cleaning the contacts and have tried two brand new cartridges --
to no avail.

I have also tried to engage the "Ultra Safe Mode" for HP IO, but when
I follow the instructions to do so via the Toolbox, the option is
"greyed out" and not available.

HP wants to charge me $20. for phone help that is not guaranteed to
work...so I'm hoping someone out there might have a suggestion. Any
ideas are very much welcome.

THANK YOU!

Perhaps an obvious question, but have you tried uninstalling the print
drivers, disconnecting the printer, rebooting, and re-installing as per
the instructions?

If so and no change, have you also tried uninstalling and cleaning the
registry of any HP driver references, then re-installing?

I once had a problem with a scanner device and after trying all of the
above, the only solution for me was to format and re-install Windows. It
was a drastic measure, but it corrected the driver issues and works fine
now.
